COURSE DESCRIPTION:

Group counseling issues will be discussed which focus on treating chemical dependency. Differences from conventional groups, selection of group members, types of groups for chemical dependency treatment, facilitating group process, using groups ot build motivation, and other topics germane to treating the chemically dependent in groups will be discussed. Group dynamics in self-help groups and inpatient faciliites will also be discussed.

Prerequisite: ENG 101. PSY/ANT/SOC 110 or PSY 266 or PSY 242.

  • While this course is intended for Addiction Studies Program(ASP) students who are pursuing the Credential in Alcoholism and Substance Abuse Counseling (CASAC), Psychology and Human Services students with an interest in group process for treating chemical dependency are invited to enroll.
