COURSE DESCRIPTION:

Students work in collaboration with organizations such as the Fund for Modern Courts in evaluating various courts throughout New York City. This requires a minimum of 4 two-three hours visits to courts with written reports following each visit. Guest lecturers, including judges and court administrators, will be attending class with follow up discussions to be conducted on subjects such as juvenile courts, the death penalty in New York, judicial selection, and court administration. Students will also study emerging trends and issues in the administration of courts as well as read and discuss various perspectives on the role of courts in society.

Prerequisite: ENG 102 and PAD 240; Senior standing or permission of instructor.
