COURSE DESCRIPTION:

A study of the emergence of a national culture and folklore. The Taino, Spanish, and African contributions to the Puerto Rican personality and character. Emphasis on the impact of the culture of the United States on Puerto Rico and the resulting conflicts. The search for a Puerto Rican identity in the United States.
