The course will begin with a discussion of the structural building blocks of each form or genre, supplemented with a close reading of published examples of such forms. From here, students will begin to write and revise in various modes, including First-person Narrative/Monologue, Rhetorical Analysis, Poetry, Short Fiction, Interview-based Argumentative Essay/Ethnography/Profile. Their writing will be workshopped in class, and after receiving constructive, hands-on criticism, students will revise their work into fuller, more complete and polished pieces.
